Dr. RP Govt. Medical College, Tanda Achieves Remarkable Milestone

Dr.Rajendra Prasad Govt. Medical College & Hospital at Tanda has achieved yet another milestone in its commitment to providing super specialty services to the local population and reducing the burden on those seeking healthcare outside the state. Dr. RP Govt. Medical College in Tanda, Himachal Pradesh has successfully performed a Left atrial appendage (LAA) device placement for the prevention of stroke in Atrial fibrillation patients.

 

Stating this, Dr. Bhanu Awasthi, Principal of the institute said that a team led by Dr. Mukul, Dr. Nareash, and Dr. Ambudhar of the Department of Cardiology of the Institute ,placed the LAA Closure device successfully without complications in two patients who were at risk of cardio-embolic stroke and had intolerance or contraindications to conventional medical therapies. This procedure is a milestone for patients with AF and will help reduce the burden on those seeking healthcare outside of the state.

 

It is worth noting that this treatment is very costly, but the institution provided it free of cost under the cashless scheme (HIMCARE) being run by the Government of Himachal Pradesh. In the past, patients had to go to PGI Chandigarh for this treatment, but now they can receive it at Dr. RPGMC Tanda.
