Draft Voter Lists to Be Published on July 25: Haryana CEO Urges Young Adults to Register

Chandigarh, July 22—Haryana’s Chief Electoral Officer, Pankaj Agarwal, has urged all eligible youth to register to vote ahead of the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections. The draft voter lists will be published on July 25, and claims and objections can be submitted until August 9. The final voter lists are scheduled for publication on August 20, 2024.

In a recent meeting with officials from the Departments of Secondary Education, Higher Education, Technical Education, Labor, Women and Child Development, and Services, Mr. Agarwal emphasized the importance of voter registration for those who have turned 18. He highlighted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has streamlined the voter registration process, allowing for registration four times a year—on January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1—compared to the previous annual registration process based on January 1 as the eligibility date.

Mr. Agarwal called for active participation from educational institutions. He advised school principals to ensure that students who turn 18 receive SMS notifications about voter registration. Similarly, Block Education Officers (BEOs) designated as dedicated Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs) should actively encourage people to register. In areas like Gurugram, Faridabad, Sonipat, and Panchkula, which have a significant number of migrant workers in organized sectors, the Labor Department is to run campaigns to assist with voter registration and address changes.

Special dates have been set for August 27, 28, and September 3, 4, when Booth Level Officers (BLOs) will be present at polling stations to assist with voter registration. BLOs will also be available to assist booth-level agents on these dates.

Mr. Agarwal noted that a team from the Election Commission of India had visited Haryana on July 13 to review preparations for the Assembly elections. The Chief Electoral Officer’s office has been diligently working on election preparations since then. Additionally, citizens can register to vote using the Voter Helpline mobile app or by calling the Voter Helpline Number 1950 for more information.

The meeting was attended by Additional Chief Electoral Officer Hema Sharma, Joint Chief Electoral Officer Apurva, Director (Administration) of the Secondary Education Department Dr. Richa Rathi, Joint Director (Administration) of the Higher Education Department Navdeep Singh, and Joint Chief Electoral Officer Rajkumar, among other departmental officials.

This proactive approach is designed to ensure that all eligible voters are registered and ready to participate in the democratic process.
