ECI Ensures Transparency with Successful EVM Randomization in Chandigarh
In line with the Election Commission’s commitment to free and fair elections, the second level randomization of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) for the Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency was successfully conducted today. District Election Officer cum Returning Officer, Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh, oversaw the process at CCET, Sector-26, alongside General Observer Sh. SS Gill and representatives of contesting candidates and political parties.
The procedure, recorded on video for transparency, utilized the ECI’s randomization software to generate a randomized list of EVMs, including Ballot Units, Control Units, and Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), for allocation to polling stations. This list was shared with candidates and their representatives to ensure transparency. Following the randomization, the pairing of Ballot Units, Control Units, and VVPATs was completed, and the EVMs were securely stored in a strong room.
Returning Officer Sh. Vinay Pratap Singh announced that the Ballot Papers for the Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency have been printed. The commissioning of EVMs will commence on May 20, under videographic surveillance and security cover, in the presence of candidates or their representatives to maintain transparency.
