Elderly Woman Crawls to Collect Pension; Authorities Step In to Provide Home Delivery

An elderly woman, Pathuri Dehury, from Raisuan Gram Panchayat in Odisha, had to crawl to the panchayat office to collect her pension after officials failed to deliver it to her doorstep, despite a state directive mandating such service for elderly and disabled beneficiaries. Dehury, who is unable to walk, had to make the arduous journey on Saturday, highlighting a failure in the implementation of the state’s pension delivery system.

Following this incident, the local administration quickly responded by initiating doorstep delivery of Dehury’s pension. The Panchayat Extension Officer has been instructed to personally deliver the pension to her home each month, ensuring she no longer has to face such challenges. Additionally, Dehury has been provided with a wheelchair to aid her mobility, as confirmed by the Block Development Officer (BDO).

In further support, Raisuan Sarpanch Bagun Champia announced that the civil supply assistant will now deliver rations to Dehury at her doorstep, providing much-needed relief to the elderly woman.

This incident underscores the need for strict enforcement of policies designed to support vulnerable populations, ensuring that basic services like pensions and rations are provided without causing undue hardship.
