Electricity on Top Agenda as Himachal CM Pushes for Strengthening State Power Board

Efforts to modernize and enhance the efficiency of the Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board Limited (HPSEBL) took center stage as Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu chaired a high-level review meeting in Shimla. Focused on driving professionalism and innovation within the Board, the state government reaffirmed its commitment to delivering reliable and efficient electricity services to consumers across the region.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that innovative strategies are being adopted to strengthen the functioning of the Board. The state is determined to make HPSEBL a model of operational efficiency while fostering transparency and accountability. In a significant move aimed at optimizing consumer services, the deadline for completing the Know Your Customer (KYC) process for electricity consumers has been set for February 15, 2025.

Addressing the social responsibility of energy consumption, the Chief Minister made an appeal to affluent consumers to voluntarily forgo electricity subsidies, encouraging a culture of equitable resource sharing in the state.

During the meeting, a comprehensive review of HPSEBL’s activities was conducted, with directives issued to ensure timely and effective project implementation. Detailed updates on the construction and progress of ongoing power projects were presented, highlighting the state’s focus on harnessing its energy potential to meet growing demand and contribute to sustainable development.

The meeting saw the participation of key stakeholders, including MLA Sanjay Awasthi, Principal Advisor to the Chief Minister Ram Subhag Singh, HPSEB Chairman Sanjay Gupta, Secretary to the Chief Minister Rakesh Kanwar, OSD Gopal Sharma, and senior officials. Their engagement underscored the importance of collaborative efforts in advancing Himachal Pradesh’s energy landscape.

This strategic initiative by the state government signals a renewed push to position Himachal Pradesh as a leader in energy management and innovation while ensuring consumer-centric policies that drive long-term growth and sustainability.
