On December 2, Dr. Baljit Kaur, the Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development in Punjab, inaugurated a transformative health and employment camp in Danewala, Malout, aimed at empowering women in the region. This event marked a significant milestone in the state’s ongoing efforts to raise health awareness and create economic opportunities for women.
During her address, Dr. Kaur emphasized the role of women in breaking societal barriers and making notable contributions across all sectors. She underscored that the camp’s primary goals were twofold: to protect women from serious health risks such as cancer and to provide employment opportunities for young women. Over 500 women participated in cancer screening, illustrating the camp’s success in promoting health awareness. Additionally, the camp featured a placement drive, where 209 young women participated, with 134 securing immediate employment from seven leading companies.
This health and employment initiative brought together a wide range of services designed to support women. Specialized stalls offered healthcare services, including cancer screening, alongside financial assistance options like widow and old-age pensions. Employment placement services, yoga sessions, and support for entrepreneurship were also available, reflecting the camp’s comprehensive approach to women’s welfare. Among the notable announcements made was the introduction of the Sponsorship Program, which provides ₹4000 per month to widowed mothers, helping them support their children. The Punjab government also extended low-interest loans to encourage economic independence for women.
In a highlight of the event, Dr. Kaur distributed checks totaling ₹67.32 lakh under the Ashirwad Scheme, benefiting 132 women with ₹51,000 each. This financial support was a step towards improving the lives of those in need, reaffirming the government’s commitment to women’s welfare. The event also featured the distribution of track suits to 149 athletes, school bags, and water bottles to 100 girls, and T-shirts and bags to beneficiaries under the Sponsorship Program.
In closing, Dr. Kaur reiterated that the Punjab Government is committed to ensuring women are fully aware of the numerous benefits and schemes available to them. She announced plans to extend such camps across the state, ensuring that every woman has access to government services and support. The event also included performances by schoolchildren, which added a cultural element to the proceedings, further engaging the community.
This initiative, attended by senior government officials, community leaders, and a large audience, represents a crucial step in Punjab’s efforts to create a more inclusive society where women have the tools to lead healthy, productive, and independent lives.
