Enforcement Directorate Arrests AAP MP Sanjay Singh in Delhi Excise Policy Case
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh on Wednesday in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. The ED had conducted searches at Singh’s residence earlier in the day and also questioned members of his staff and those linked to him.
The ED is alleging that the Delhi government’s excise policy for 2021-22 allowed cartelisation and favoured certain dealers who had allegedly paid bribes for it. The AAP has strongly refuted these charges.
According to the ED, Singh was involved in money laundering related to the Delhi excise policy case. The agency has alleged that Singh and his associates received kickbacks from liquor traders in exchange for awarding them lucrative contracts under the new excise policy.
The ED’s arrest of Singh is a major blow to the AAP, which has been facing increasing scrutiny from central agencies in recent months. The party has accused the BJP of using central agencies to target its leaders and stifle its political growth.
The Delhi excise policy case is still under investigation and it is unclear what role Singh played in it. However, the ED’s arrest of Singh suggests that the agency has gathered significant evidence to support its allegations against him.
