Former Chief Minister and ex-Union Minister, Shanta Kumar, expressed satisfaction with the Himachal government’s proposal to establish a tourism village in Palampur. In a recent statement, he extended his congratulations while also suggesting careful consideration for the interests of Chaudhary Shravan Kumar Agricultural University there.

According to Shanta Kumar, the university has previously allocated land for various institutions and is in the process of transformation into a Central Agricultural University, a step aligned with the Government of India’s plan to establish such institutions. He emphasized the need for additional land for these developments, including the establishment of an engineering college to complement modern agriculture.

Addressing Himachal Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh, Shanta Kumar advised the consideration of approximately 3200 acres of land near Kandi, which was generously donated to the government by social worker Mrs. Chandraprabha. This vast expanse of land could serve as an ideal location for the proposed tourism village.

Shanta Kumar highlighted the tourism potential of the entire Dhauladhar region from Kandi to Dharamshala, advocating for strategic planning to harness these possibilities. He recalled the infrastructure development, including a bridge, initiated during his tenure with a focus on connecting Dhauladhar. He suggested exploring Dhauladhar as an alternative site for the tourism village, thereby unlocking the region’s tourism potential.

In conclusion, Shanta Kumar urged the Himachal government to prioritize building the tourism village in Palampur while ensuring the long-term interests and potential of Chaudhary Shravan Kumar Agricultural University are safeguarded. He emphasized that, given the availability of ample land for the tourism project, it should not compromise the future growth of the university.
