Fatal shooting in Manipur claims life of BSF jawan, injures 2 Assam Rifles personnel

In a tragic incident, a BSF jawan lost his life and two Assam Rifles personnel sustained bullet injuries during a fierce gunfight with suspected Kuki militants in Manipur’s Kakching district. The incident took place on Tuesday morning when the militants launched an attack on the BSF troops deployed at Serou Practical High School in Sugnu.

Constable Ranjit Yadav, bravely serving the nation, suffered critical bullet injuries during the exchange of fire. He was swiftly evacuated to Jivan Hospital in Kakching for medical treatment. However, despite the best efforts of the medical team, Constable Yadav succumbed to his injuries at 7.35 am.

In response to the attack, BSF and Assam Rifles forces valiantly retaliated, leading to an intense exchange of fire with the militants. Unfortunately, two Assam Rifles personnel also suffered injuries in the encounter. Prompt action was taken, and the injured personnel were immediately airlifted to Leimakhong military hospital in Imphal West district for urgent medical care.

The Defense wing in Imphal released a statement confirming the deployment of additional troops in the Sugnu and Serou areas in the past 48 hours. These reinforcements were sent following a series of violent incidents, including arson and shootings. The primary objective of the additional troops was to strengthen the ongoing extensive area domination operations and implement necessary measures to curtail further violence.

The region has been witnessing intermittent exchanges of fire between security forces and militants, especially during the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. To counter these security threats, the Assam Rifles, BSF, and local police have been actively conducting area domination operations.

The sacrifices made by our brave jawans and personnel serve as a reminder of the challenges faced by our security forces in maintaining peace and security in volatile regions. The authorities remain determined to bring the perpetrators of this heinous attack to justice and ensure the safety of the local population.

The incident highlights the need for continued vigilance and strengthened counter-insurgency operations to safeguard the lives of our brave security personnel and maintain peace in Manipur.
