Former Chief Minister Addresses Press Amid Controversy, Questions Government’s Advocacy Stance
Former Chief Minister and opposition leader Jairam Thakur responded to reporters’ queries in Nagrota Bagwan on Monday, shedding light on the government’s stance during the presentation at the High Court regarding the CPS case. He mentioned that the government found amusement in rejecting arguments presented by the government’s advocate general on Monday, giving them until tomorrow to present their case. Thakur expressed confidence that as per the Supreme Court’s previous rulings in this case, the position of 6 CPS members will be vacated, and qualifications for the remaining 6 legislators will also be determined in due time.
Regarding the ongoing construction of the Central University campus buildings in Dharamshala and Dehra, Thakur clarified the BJP’s position. While construction has commenced in Dehra, it is yet to begin in Dharamshala due to the state government’s failure to deposit its share of 30 crores, causing a standstill similar to other areas affected by the government’s inaction. He raised several questions about the deteriorating law and order situation in the state, emphasizing the need for accountability from the ruling party.
Thakur’s statements came amidst controversy surrounding Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu’s visit to Palampur during his Kangra tour on Saturday, where he addressed the family of the victim of a heinous assault, choosing not to visit their residence but instead meeting them on the street to express sympathy. In response to questions about the Chief Minister’s actions, Thakur stated that he was unaware of Sukkhu’s perspective on the matter, but morally, it would have been appropriate for the Chief Minister to visit the victim’s home to offer condolences. Also present at the event were former MLA and reconciliation legislator Vipin Singh Parmar, state secretary Trilok Kapoor, former MLA Arun Kumar Kuka, and former MLA Mulak Raj Premi.
