Former PGI Prof gets NAMS fellowship
Chandigarh, October 9 (kulbir kalsi): PGI former professor Dr (Porf) Ramesh Sen has been conferred with prestigious fellowship by The National Academy of Medical Sciences (NAMS) during the 63rd annual conference of NAMS at Ramaiah Medical College, Bengaluru on Saturday.
The honour was bestowed upon Dr. Sen in the presence of Governor of Karnataka Thawar Chand Gehlot , Minister of State for the Ministry of Science and Technology Jitendra Singh and Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Satya Pal Singh Baghel.
Dr Sen who is presently principal director and head of ortho surgery at Max Hospital Mohali for the year 2023 in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the field of orthopedic surgery.
Dr Sen has expertise in joint replacement surgery, including the rich experience of handling revision hip and knee arthroplasty surgeries. In the past he has also the honour of being the first President of ‘Association of Pelvi acetabular surgeons of India’ and President of ‘North Zone Orthopaedic Association’.
During his 35 years long career, he has authored about 250 research papers with over 20 book chapters, 500 guest lectures, over 100 in foreign countries and five research patents to his credit.His extensive expertise has also led to five research patents, more than 30 Oration awards, and over 10 Fellowship awards, including the prestigious SAARC Countries Golden Award and the 1st Golden Jubilee Oration Award by the Indian Orthopaedic Association.
To date only 30 orthopedic surgeons from all over the country have been awarded with this fellowship and Dr Sen is the 2nd orthopaedic surgeon who is not working in any academic institution to have been given this honour.
Established in 1961 and inaugurated by India’s first PM Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru NAMS is a prestigious institution under the Government of India. Since its inception, NAMS has recognized the outstanding achievements of Indian scientists in medicine and allied sciences, awarding fellowships through a rigorous peer-reviewed process and final voting by all the Fellows.
