In a strong stance against the recent Haryana police action that injured farmers protesting for their rights, the Punjab government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has announced it will fully cover the medical expenses of all those injured during the ongoing protests. This decision comes as a beacon of hope for the injured farmers, journalists, and even police personnel who faced the brunt of the Haryana force while trying to peacefully reach Delhi.
Standing firmly with the protestors, the government has put all hospitals near the Haryana border on high alert, ensuring 24/7 emergency services, sufficient doctors, and a network of ambulances ready at a moment’s notice. Dr. Balbir Singh, Punjab’s Health Minister, personally visited these facilities, including AIMS Mohali, CHC Banur, Civil Hospital Rajpura, and Rajindra Hospital Patiala, to assess the situation and ensure proper care. He even directed AIMS Mohali to further strengthen its emergency services to avoid any unnecessary referrals to PGI or GMC-32.
However, Dr. Singh’s visit wasn’t just about medical assistance; it was a powerful condemnation of Haryana’s actions. He vehemently denounced the “unprovoked” use of force, calling it “unconstitutional and illegal.” He urged the BJP-led Haryana government to respect the farmers’ right to peaceful protest and allow them to reach Delhi to raise their voices.
This act of solidarity by the Punjab government not only provides much-needed medical support to the injured but also sends a clear message of support to the farmers’ cause. With free medical care, enhanced emergency services, and a strong voice against the injustice they faced, the injured can focus on healing while knowing they have the unwavering backing of the Punjab government.
