Israel Government urged to help State in setting up Centre of Excellence

Agriculture Secretary hold meeting with Ambassador of Israel

In sequel to Chief Minister Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal visit to Israel

alongwith senior officers of the State Government some time past to study the agro

technology adopted in Israel so as to boost agriculture production in Himachal

Pradesh, Secretary Agriculture, Shri Ram Subhag Singh on the direction of Chief

Minister held meeting with Ambassador of Israel, Shri Mark Sofer at New Delhi

today and discussed at length with him about the implementation of 70 million US

dollar ( Rs. 353 crore) Pandit Deen Dayal Kisan Baagwan Samridhi Yojna being

implemented in the State which envisages to bring 14.70 lakh square mater area under

polyhouses in the State besides minor irrigation in 20,000 hectare areas so as to bring

mark improvement in agriculture production in the State.

He also apprised him that two Israel companies Nandan and Netafim

were working with the State Government in the implementation of this project which

has helped the State Government in implementation of it in right perspective.

Shri Ram Subhag Singh said that State Government has felt the need

for package of practices and in fertigation technology so as to yield better results. He

requested the Ambassador of Israel that either Israel Government should help the

State Government in this regard or involve some specialised agencies so that State

Government could benefit farmers of the State.

He said that State Government intends to set up Centre of Excellence

in Chaudhary Sarvan Kumar Agriculture University Palampur for green houses

technology where farmers will have direct link with the University. He urged the

Israel Government to take up the matter with Israel Government either to provide

expertise for this Centre of Excellence at Government level or by some agencies or

make arrangements for sending experts of and on for this centre of excellence to be set

up in the University so that farmers of the State are benefitted at large.

Israel Ambassador Shri Mark Sofer assured the Agriculture Secretary

that he will take up this matter with Israel Government and see that this proposal is

considered.

It may be recalled that Government of India had also appreciated the

implementation of Pandit Deen Dayal Kisan Baagwan Samridhi Yojna which had

helped in boosting up the income of the farmers by taking up of off season and green

vegetables. The State Government was providing 80 percent subsidy for construction

of polyhouses and minor irrigation besides 50 percent subsidy for raising water

sources. Since the inception of the scheme 7.09 lakh square meter had been brought

under protected farming under the scheme and over 6000 polyhouses have been

constructed. A subsidy of Rs. 44 crore had been given to farmers to adopt this scheme
