Dharamshala: The demand for creating a new district had gathered a momentum in the tenure of recent BJP government but somehow the then government has failed to do so in their tenure. But in the state party meet it silently raised its demand for Palampur district by holding banners stating Palampur as a district, while Palampur is a tehsil and is a home of senior most leader of the party.

State has already 12 districts but the conspiracy of the some of the BJP leaders had egged the Zila Bnao Sangarsh Samiti which had staged protests last year before the BJP government demanding Palampur a district. Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, the then Chief Minster had announced that new district would be carved out from Kangra but opposed by the then congress, BJp failed to do so.

In the three day state party meet big hoardings and banners were seen stating Palampur as a district but however no leader has spoken about this in his speech from the stage.

When contacted all the office bearers of the BJP shirked to comment upon the matter and averted of issuing any statement on it. This camp was inaugurated by the Party’s national president, Rajnath Singh and was concluded on Sunday.

Palampur is the home turf of Shanta Kumar, former Chief Minister and sitting Rajya Sabha member. It is the part of the Kangra district since creation of the Himachal State and therefore carving out new districts was opposed by the many leaders of the district as it would ruined the history of the district.

Meanwhile, the sitting party’s Member of Parliament (MP) Raja Suashant, was not invited to attend the meet. When contacted he said the he was not invited for the meet but he maintained that he welcomes the National leaders of the party to his constituency.

It is to be noted that the said MP had opposed its own party’s chief minister in recent year after which the move had started to expel him from the party.
