World Cancer Day: 4th February 2015

Every Year World Cancer day is celebrated on 4th February. This year this day was celebrated under the tagline “Not beyond us”. World Cancer Day will take a positive and proactive approach to fight against Cancer highlighting that solutions do exist across the continuum of Cancer and they are with their our reach. The 2015 campaign will be focused on choosing healthy lives, delivering early detection, achieving treatment of all and maximizing quality of life.

This year National Programme for prevention & Control of Cancer, Diabetes, CVD’s and stroke (NPCDCS), National Health Mission, U.T. Chandigarh celebrated this day in collaboration with Dept. of Community of Medicine, GMCH-32. This day was used as an opportunity for creating Cancer Awareness amongst elderly. Various activities were carried out at Satya Sai old age Home, Sector-30, Dr. Manjit Singh, Programme Officer and Dr. Sonia Puri,  Asst. Prof. GMCH-32, laid stress on early signs, Symptoms of Cancer its treatment and management. There was an interactive session where inmates of old age home discussed about their medical problems Mobile Mammography and Dexascan unit in collaboration with 

GMCH-32 visited this place to provide accessibility to facilities of mammography and bone density scan (Dexascan) for elderly of old age home at their doorstep as most of them are above the age of 60 years and unable to avail these services at the health facilities Medicines were also prescribed based on their reports. To generate awareness amongst school Children regarding Cancer an inter school competition was also organized at urban training centre, Dept. of Community Medicine, GMCH-32, Students were given awards accordingly.
