Chandigarh, May 1, 2016 (kulbir singh kalsi):-A National Workshop on UV-VIS, FTIR, XRD, SEM and TEM Techniques Organized by SSB UICET, PU under TEQIP-II in association with Department of SAIF/CIL/UCIM/USIC, PU (April 25- April 30, 2016) Chandigarh May 1, 2016    

A week long National Workshop on UV-VIS, FTIR, XRD, SEM and TEM techniques was organized by Dr. S.S. Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical Engineering & Technology(SSBUICET), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh in association with Department of SAIF/CIL/UCIM/USIC, PU from April 25 to April 30, 2016. The workshop was sponsored by TEQIP-II fund of Dr SSB UICET. The workshop was designed to enrich the participants in fundamentals and theoretical concepts, sample preparation, data analysis and various applications of the analytical instruments. The invited experts not only provided the sound theoretical knowledge but also hands on training on the instruments. In this unique workshop half of the total time spent each day was intended for hands on training and learning practical aspects which was thoroughly utilized by the participants. The eminent experts who deliberated their talks included Prof A S K Sinha (IIT-BHU), Prof Ayan Datta (IACS Kolkatta), Prof Balaram Sahoo (IISc Bangalore), Prof Anshu Gaur (IIT-Kanpur), Prof Sukhvir Singh (NPL Delhi) and Prof Dipanker Banerjee (IISc Bangalore).  The Chief Guest during the valedictory function was Dr R S Sangwan, Chief Executive Officer, Center of Innovative and Applied Bioprocessing [CIAB], Mohali. Prof Meenakshi Goyal welcomed the distinguished guests and the participants and described the consistent efforts made by Dr SSB UICET in conducting high quality research.  Dr R S Sangwan, Chief Guest of the valedictory function during his address emphasized on the use of sophisticated analytical instruments in high quality research, their hands on training to the research scholars and faculty, publication of good quality research and role of technology transfer for utilizing the research carried out. Prof S K Mehta, Director CIL, during his address emphasized on the need of providing state of the art analytical facilities to the researchers and his efforts in improving the facilities at CIL. He also elaborated on the various research initiatives and workshops being organized by the CIL.     

 

    Prof Anupama Sharma, Coordinator TEQIP-II, described about the TEQIP-II Project of Dr SSB UICET and its contribution in research and development. Prof Sushil Kumar Kansal, coordinator of this National workshop presented the detailed report on the deliberations and discussions made during the National workshop and the outcomes of the workshop. The workshop was attended by 65 participants for acquiring in-depth understanding of the analytical instruments, their working, detailed analysis and interpretation of experimental data. The participants were highly enthusiastic about learning these analytical techniques and they participated with zeal and enthusiasm in both theory and practical training sessions. Mr. Surinder Singh Bhinder presented the vote of thanks.
