When a   Hill Toy train starts from a plain area and gradually climb to take you so near to the snow capped mountains in its splandous 164 kms journey over the 82 years old tracks and show you the best of lakes ,rivers and valleys, than why it is not so popular, this is the burning issue. It is Kangra Valley train. No other train in India gives such avariety of scienic adventure.but still facing the neglect of the railway ministry. Lacking the basic fecillities of the hour this train doesn’t attract the middle to high class tourists.the train coaches are skeletons, the aged engines are breathless, no AC or classified coaches, no sleepers, no chair cars, no cattering, no rail cars, no railway rest houses at the popular spots and no advance booking are the few problems out of many. The politicians are raising their voices for its broad guage conversion, but non speaks for its modernization. these are the reasons that this best tourist intrest track is not attracting tourists at all.

This hill train takes more time than normal plain area time as it travels at very low speed and as it is a single line so train stops to give way to other direction trains. It is  far away  in comparison with other hill  trains like Kalka – Shimla, Mettupalem – Ooty & NJP – Darjeeling.

This beautiful meter gauge train service starts from Pathankot and ends at Joginder Nagar

The train passes through valley, rivers and many beautiful places and towards the last stretch of the journey snow capped Dhauladhar hills will be visible.

This train line of 164 KM long was constructed in the year 1926 and started operation in the year 1929. During first one hour of journey from Pathankot the train passes through small town and villages. It travelles by the side of thebiggest man made still water lake, the Maharana Pratap Sagar of Pong Dam.Then it enters into valleys with big rivers and bridges. Most of the time valley and rivers were at the right side of the train. As the train moves upward and the journey became more scenic with a distance view of snow capped Dhauladhar hills. Rivers became narrow with deep blue water and the train started taking curves by moving over high bridges and inside tunnels. The first tunnel came after three hours of our journey. There are few tunnels in this track in comparision to other toy train of Himachal running between Kalka and Shimla.

This train passes through many small stations which connect to near by popular tourist destinations. To go to Dharamsala one can get down at Kangra . Dharmasala  located at a distance of 20 KM from here. Kangra Valley train also connects you to the famouse religious places like Jawalamukhi, brjeshwari Devi, Chamunda Devi and Baijnath. It also passes through Palampur agriculture university and medical college capuses of Tanda and Paprola. The railway ministry must give a petting hand to it and it shall become the best tourist rail of the country
