To Create awareness among public is the sole motto of NSS

Chandigarh, 4 March, 2017 (kulbir singh kalsi):- National Institute of Nursing Education (NINE), PGIMER, Chandigarh is organizing a 7 days  NSS regular camp from March  4th - 10th 2017 at Village Sarangpur and NINE Campus. The Camp was inaugurated on 04-03-2017 NSS camp organised by NINE, PGIMER, Chandigarh on Sarangpur  by the Chief Guest Mr. Subhash Chand, Regional Director, NSS Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports; Guest of Honor, Dr. Raman Kalia Principal, Saraswati College of Nursing, Gharuan, Dr. Sandhya Ghai Principal, NINE, and S. Sadhu Singh, Sarpanch of Village Sarangpur.


Under the guidance of Programme Officers, Mrs. Meenakshi Agnihotri and Dr. Sukhjit Kaur, 128 volunteers will participate in various activities including self-defence training, Swachhta Abhiyan, Reproductive Health Assessment, Health Mela, Walkathon on NCD etc.


A small cultural function was organized by NSS volunteers in which they displayed their talents through recitation of Shabad, Nukar natak on social evils, Poem recitation on female feticide, patriotic songs and brief introduction on importance of NSS etc. 


The Chief Guest encouraged the students to utilize their knowledge related to health issues in creating awareness among the public.  Dr. Sandhya Ghai motivated the students for participating in the planned activities as well as the programmes initiated by Honorable Prime Minister Sh. Narender Modi, such as Swachhta Abhiyan, Cashless economy, involve the public in maintaining environmental cleanliness and personal hygiene and teach them about cashless transactions. She requested the village sarpanch to motivate the adolescent girls in the village to participate in the self defense training along with the NSS volunteers for their safety and to empower them. She also highlighted the need to create awareness on  the traffic rules for the villagers.
