Students of Chandigarh college of Architecture celebrates LE CORBUSIER WEEK

Chandigarh, 10th October 2018: Students of Chandigarh College of Architecture celebrated the 131st birth anniversary of Master Architect Le Corbusier with a week long period of activities.

Various competitions such as Photography, Architectural Design and Quiz were organised. The photography competition received 25 entries titled “Architectural Elements of Chandigarh”. As suggested by the  Governor of Punjab and the Administrator U.T. Shri. V.P. Singh Bandore, a design competition for Multipurpose hall at Punjab Raj Bhavan was floated by the college on behalf of the Chandigarh Administration for the students of the college. 

The finale for the Le Corbusier week concluded with the Annual Convocation Ceremony by Shri V.P. Singh Badnore ,Governor of Punjab and Administrator UT Chandigarh ; Shri Parimal Rai IAS , Advisor to the Administrator; Shri. J.M. Balamurugan IAS, Secretary to Governor of Punjab ; Shri. Arun kumar Gupta IAS, Home Secretary, Shri Sachin Rana IAS, Special Secretary Technical Education; Dr. Sangeeta Bagga Mehta .

The ceremony was inaugurated by lighting the lamp of knowledge. A welcome address was delivered by principal Dr. Sangeeta Bagga Mehta in which she shared that with support of 

Administration the masters programme held its first academic session in August 2018 the 

successful start was made by an orientation programme by professor A.G.K. Menon and Dr. 

Supriya Nene. The college has been entrusted with ongoing consultancy works by Indian 

Railways for redevelopment of Ambala and Shimla railway station and Heritage argumentation of Kalka railway station.

This was followed by convocation ceremony for the graduating batch 2013-2018. 

The Administrator addressed the audience and congratulated college for its achievements. He was delighted to see that there are students in CCA from different states such as Tripura, Assam, Manipur and shall take the flavour of Le Corbusier to their home towns. The Gold and Silver Medals and other awards to the meritorious students. 

The Administrator gave away the prizes to the 

winners of Raj Bhavan competition. 

A special lecture on “the Celestial, the Circadian and the Circumstantial” was delivered on this 

occasion by Shri. Rajeev Kathpalia, a distinguished alumni of C.C.A. and partner at Vastu Shilpa Foundation. Inspired by his encounter with Corbusier fortyfour years ago, he said architecture without Corbusier is unimaginable. Coming to Chandigarh, he said one should be open to change and should be able to take risk which helps to find one’s own path. Many distinguished alumni of C.C.A., students, teachers and parents were present during the event.
