Devotees thronged temples to take Lord Shivji blessings on Mahashivratri Parv

Sunita Soni: Temples in Himachal Pradesh is considered to be one of the most sacred for celebrations and intiation of every festival and spiritual occasion. Today is the occasion of Maha Shivratri where lacs of devotees gathered from different parts of the country to have the blessings of Lord Shiva at Baijnath and at Mandi.

The bhootnath temple at Mandi hosts the biggest Shivratri celebrations. The royal family of Mandi initiated this tradition over almost 500 years back and its a week long international festival also attracts many tourist from India and abroad.

 

In Sirmour District devotees gathered at Pataleshwar Mahashiv Mandir at village Patlion under Paonta Tehsil. Pataleshwar Mandir is a Shiv-Ling temple of Mahabharat times where five brothers of Pandwa family stayed in this temple when they wentunderground. The temple was isolated long back when it was covered by thick forest but during the last many years resident constructed their houses because of increasing population. The people when knew about this temple they started for the renovation of temple. They not only collected funds but also provided volunteer services for renovation.


The pilgrims reached in this temple from adjoining areas and States to get blessing of Lord Shiva.

 

Devotees in Dalhosie in Chamba, Kangra and in other parts of Hiamchal Pradesh also gathered to have blessings of Lord Shiva. Devotees chants " Om Namo Shivai" mantra and offered milk and fruits. Devotees keep fast and offered prayers to seek the Lord Shiva blessings.
