Furious Villagers Block Road in Protest Against Poor Road Conditions

Chamba Dalhousie (Bobby Singh ) :Enraged by the deplorable state of the Karelnu Valley section of the Gandhi Chowk-Kohlad road, villagers in Dalhousie, Himachal Pradesh, took to the streets on Tuesday to block the road and vent their frustration against the Public Works Department (PWD).

The villagers have been repeatedly pleading with the administration and the PWD to address the road’s deteriorating condition, riddled with deep potholes and completely devoid of bitumen. Despite submitting a memorandum to the SDM Dalhousie on June 25th, warning of a road blockade if their demands were not met within a week, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears.

Unable to bear the apathy of the authorities any longer, the villagers resorted to a road blockade, disrupting traffic and causing inconvenience to commuters.

Responding to the protest, Tehsildar Ramesh Chauhan, PWD SDO Ankus Ranautra, and SHO Jagbir Singh rushed to the scene to pacify the agitated villagers.

The PWD officials assured the villagers that the potholes would be filled immediately and the remaining road, drainage, and paver block work would be completed after the monsoon season.

Satisfied with the verbal assurances, the villagers called off their protest after about an hour and a half.

The incident highlights the growing frustration among residents over the dismal state of infrastructure in many parts of India. The authorities must take prompt action to address the grievances of the people and ensure the proper maintenance of public roads.
