Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu Discusses Development Priorities with MLAs from Shimla and Mandi
Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu presided over the second day of MLA priority meetings, engaging in discussions with legislators from Shimla and Mandi districts. The primary focus of the meeting was to align development priorities with the state’s long-term vision of self-reliance. CM Sukhu emphasized the crucial role of MLAs in regional development, acknowledging their grassroots connections and ensuring that their recommendations would be given priority in the upcoming state budget.
Government’s Commitment to Education and Healthcare
Reiterating the state government’s commitment to improving essential public services, CM Sukhu stated that education and healthcare remain the two core focus areas of his administration. Over the past two years, substantial reforms have been implemented to enhance these sectors. He criticized the previous government for opening numerous institutions without adequate facilities, which resulted in a decline in service quality. In contrast, the current administration is actively modernizing healthcare by integrating advanced technology, upgrading infrastructure, and addressing workforce shortages through ongoing recruitment drives. These initiatives, he assured, will yield positive results in the near future, significantly benefiting the people of Himachal Pradesh.
Promoting Industrial Growth and Sustainable Development
CM Sukhu further elaborated on the government’s initiatives to promote industrial growth while preserving the state’s natural beauty. He highlighted policy reforms aimed at fostering growth in tourism, dairy farming, IT and data storage, and food processing, along with other environmentally sustainable industries.
During the meeting, the Chief Minister also announced key infrastructure developments. He assured improvements to the Rohru-Chidgaon road and allocated funds for the Kurpan drinking water scheme, directing the Jal Shakti Department to complete the project by April 30, 2025. Additionally, he instructed the Agriculture and Forest Departments to explore the potential for bamboo-based industries in Gagret, which could provide employment opportunities and contribute to economic development.

Kuldeep Singh Rathore, the MLA from Theog, expressed gratitude for the allocation of Rs. 3 crore for the development of an ice-skating rink in Narkanda. He also highlighted the lack of assistance from the central government, pointing out that despite this, Himachal Pradesh continues to progress under the leadership of the current administration. Additionally, he criticized the Union Budget for not implementing the anticipated 100 percent import duty on apples but lauded the state government for introducing universal apple cartons, a move that has immensely benefited orchardists and growers.
