Governor and Chief Minister Pay Tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on Birth Anniversaries
Shimla, October 2, 2023: Himachal Pradesh Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu paid floral tribute to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries today.
At the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at The Ridge in Shimla, Governor Shukla reflected on the enduring legacy of the Father of the Nation. He highlighted Gandhi’s unwavering commitment to truth and non-violence, his deep-rooted connection to Indian traditions, and his principles of Swadeshi, Swaraj, self-reliance, and cleanliness.
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the profound impact of Gandhi’s non-violent approach to the freedom struggle and his pivotal role in India’s struggle for independence. He called upon the citizens to draw inspiration from Gandhi’s ideals and incorporate them into their lives.
The Governor and Chief Minister also visited the photo exhibition based on the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
Later, at CTO Chowk, they paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. Governor Shukla praised Shastri for inspiring the country to make it self-reliant by giving the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’. He also highlighted Shastri’s integrity, humility, and simplicity.
Chief Minister Sukhu called Shastri an embodiment of simplicity who gave the message of duty to the country. He also remembered Shastri for giving the slogan ‘Jai Jawan, Jai Kisan’ during a time of food shortage in the country, inspiring people to move towards self-reliance.
Patriotic songs and bhajans were also recited on the occasion.
Education Minister Rohit Thakur, Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, local MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Municipal Corporation Shimla Surinder Chauhan, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, Principal Private Secretary to CM Vivek Bhatia, Deputy Commissioner, Shimla Aditya Negi, Director, Information & Public Relations Rajiv Kumar, Commissioner MC Shimla Bhupender Kumar Attri, students from Balika Ashram Tutikandi, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
