Governor Banwarilal Purohit Honors Outstanding Teachers at Chandigarh’s State Awards Felicitation Ceremony

Chandigarh, September 6, 2023 –

The Department of School Education, Chandigarh, organized a prestigious felicitation ceremony at Tagore Theatre, Sector-18, to recognize and celebrate the exceptional contributions of educators in the city. The event, graced by Shri Banwarilal Purohit, Governor of Punjab and Administrator of UT Chandigarh, was a momentous occasion where educators were honored for their unwavering commitment to enhancing the quality of school education and positively shaping the lives of their students.

The ceremony commenced with the traditional lamp lighting, followed by an enchanting group song by teachers that beautifully portrayed the profound role teachers play in the lives of students and in nation-building. The performance of the Punjabi folk dance ‘Luddi,’ symbolizing celebration and victory, resonated with the idea that every teacher’s recognition is a triumph in itself.

Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, the esteemed Chief Guest, had the privilege of felicitating 15 Principals and teachers with State Awards while commending the outstanding efforts of 9 educators.

During his address, Sh. Purohit extended his heartfelt congratulations to the Department for organizing such a grand event. He shared his personal experiences, emphasizing the pivotal role teachers have played in his own life. He paid tribute to Dr. S. Radhakrishnan and the story of his birthday, which eventually led to the celebration of Teacher’s Day. Sh. Purohit also drew inspiration from the life of Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, highlighting Kalam’s humble nature and his enduring wish to be remembered as a ‘Teacher.’ Sh. Purohit urged the teachers present to continue their noble work in society and expressed his firm belief in their potential. He aspired to make Chandigarh a benchmark for education across the country.
