Governor Banwarilal Purohit Inaugurates ‘Amit Yuva Kalotsav’ Festival in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, July 17:
The three-day ‘Amit Yuva Kalotsav’ festival, organized by the Sangeet Natak Akademi in collaboration with the Department of Cultural Affairs, Chandigarh Administration, was inaugurated today by Sh. Banwarilal Purohit, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab and Administrator, UT Chandigarh. The festival, taking place from 17th to 19th July 2023, is being held at Tagore Theatre in Sector 18, Chandigarh.
The inaugural ceremony commenced with the national anthem and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Hon’ble Administrator of UT and other dignitaries. Dr. Sandhya Purecha, Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi, welcomed the Chief Guest and esteemed guests, providing an overview of the rich cultural heritage represented by the Sangeet Natak Akademi.
In his speech, Sh. Purohit congratulated the Sangeet Natak Akademi on successfully organizing the event nationwide. He emphasized the historical significance of performing arts in India, stating, “Such events have a great impact on children as well, allowing them to stay connected to their Indian roots. The richness of art reflects the richness of culture, personality, and society.”
The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Sh. Sorabh Arora, Director of Culture, UT Chandigarh, followed by captivating cultural performances including Gurbani Kirtan (devotional music), Kathak (Indian classical dance form), Bhangra (Punjabi folk dance), and a play.
Amit Yuva Kalotsav is a celebration of music, dance, drama, folk and tribal performing arts, puppetry, mime, and more. In addition to the evening performances, a workshop on art critique will be organized during the day. The workshop aims to engage around 30 artists from Chandigarh and nearby areas, particularly writers who provide reviews for local newspapers, magazines, blogs, etc.
