Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla flagged off earthen urns collected from 10 mountain passes in Himachal Pradesh during a ceremony held at Raj Bhavan. The event was jointly organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra and the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) as part of the ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign.

In his address to the volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra and ITBP Jawans, the Governor emphasized the significance of one’s homeland and birthplace, which he stated is even more precious than heaven. He praised India as the land of warriors, where every region has produced valiant freedom fighters and dedicated soldiers who have made immense sacrifices for the nation.

Governor Shukla highlighted that this campaign was initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to commemorate 75 years of India’s independence, aiming to encourage widespread public participation. He commended the Prime Minister for his visionary leadership and patriotism, noting that the program would greatly foster a sense of patriotism among the youth.

The ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign, initiated by the Central Government, seeks to preserve the memories of unsung heroes and courageous individuals from villages and towns who played a crucial role in the freedom struggle. Young volunteers have collected soil and plants from the homes of martyrs and villages, which will be transported in 7500 earthen pots to New Delhi for the construction of Amrit Vatika. Saplings will also be planted in Shaheed Vatika to ensure that future generations remember the supreme sacrifices made by the martyrs.

Governor Shukla stressed that it is the responsibility of every segment of society to honor and respect our brave soldiers. He lauded the ITBP Jawans stationed in challenging and snow-covered border areas, expressing his gratitude for their dedicated service.

The Governor officially launched the collection of earthen pots from various parts of the state, which will be sent to New Delhi. He encouraged Nehru Yuva Kendra volunteers visiting the capital to uphold the pride of Himachal Pradesh, a land known for its courageous soldiers, including Major Somnath, who was awarded the country’s first Paramveer Chakra and hailed from the state.

Furthermore, Governor Shukla administered an oath to the public, urging them to actively participate in the development of India.
