Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Awards Degrees and Medals at Himachal Pradesh Technical University Convocation: Celebrating Excellence in Education and Youth Empowerment

Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla presided over the fifth convocation of Himachal Pradesh Technical University in Hamirpur, where he awarded 259 degrees and 110 medals to meritorious students. The ceremony saw 59 students receiving gold medals and 51 silver medals, with female students leading the count at 73 medals compared to 37 for males. Among the degree recipients, 162 were female and 97 male, reflecting the increasing participation of women in higher education.
Congratulating the achievers, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla highlighted the importance of leveraging their education to serve society. He urged the students to embrace challenges as opportunities and prioritize societal contribution. Emphasizing the role of teachers, he acknowledged their efforts in shaping students’ academic and moral character, encouraging graduates to strive for excellence with integrity and societal responsibility. The Governor stressed the importance of education being reflected in one’s character and actions, emphasizing the need for social service to build the nation and oneself. He also pointed out that knowledge, skills, and technology are key drivers of success in the 21st century, and encouraged students to harness government initiatives to create jobs rather than seek them.
Governor Shukla also lauded the government’s initiatives, such as the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to make higher education more accessible. He expressed confidence that NEP would revolutionize education and called for increased awareness among stakeholders. He urged students to contribute towards making Himachal Pradesh a drug-free state.
The Chief Guest, Member of NITI Aayog Prof. Vinod Kumar Paul, described the convocation as a moment of pride for students, parents, and teachers. Prof. Paul emphasized the vision of “Viksit Bharat,” set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047. He appreciated the university’s swift implementation of the NEP and called upon students to aim high, think big, and work tirelessly to achieve their dreams. Highlighting government initiatives such as the Atal Training School Labs and Pradhan Mantri Vidya Laxmi Yojana, Prof. Paul underlined their impact on skill development and youth empowerment. He also mentioned projects like the Medical Device Park and Bulk Drug Park in Himachal Pradesh, which aim to create job opportunities and foster economic growth.
Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani spoke about the transformative impact of education, urging graduates to use their knowledge to solve societal problems. He emphasized the importance of innovation, continuous learning, and cultural values, while advocating for an entrepreneurial mindset over dependency on government jobs. He encouraged graduates to expand the university’s alumni network and actively participate in knowledge-sharing initiatives, which he identified as essential for progress.
Vice-Chancellor Shashi Kumar Dhiman presented the university’s annual report, noting that over 30,000 students have graduated from the university, with 4,801 degrees conferred during the fifth convocation. Registrar Kamal Dev concluded the ceremony with a vote of thanks, recognizing the efforts of all involved in making the event a success.
The convocation was attended by several dignitaries, including Political Advisor to CM Sunil Sharma Bittu, MLA Bhoranj Suresh Kumar, Director of NIT Hamirpur H.M. Suryavanshi, Secretary to the Governor C.P. Verma, Deputy Commissioner Hamirpur Amarjeet Singh, and Superintendent of Police Bhagat Singh Thakur. Faculty members, students, and prominent personalities also graced the occasion, making it a memorable event celebrating educational achievements and fostering a vision for the future.
