Governor Shukla Presents Road Safety Awards, Emphasizes Collective Effort for Safer Himachal Roads
Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla stressed the importance of collective responsibility alongside stricter enforcement of traffic rules to ensure road safety in Himachal Pradesh. Speaking at a Road Safety Award Ceremony, he acknowledged the challenges posed by the state’s hilly terrain but expressed confidence in overcoming them through proactive measures, education, and innovative strategies.
Shukla commended the police department’s initiatives to recognize individuals contributing to road safety awareness. He highlighted the increasing number of vehicles on state roads, averaging 450 new registrations daily, and the surge in tourism leading to 10,000 vehicles entering Himachal Pradesh on weekends during peak season.
The Governor lauded the coordinated efforts of the police, transport department, and public works department in identifying and addressing accident-prone black spots. He pointed to a significant decrease in road accidents, fatalities, and injuries in 2023 compared to 2022, with reductions of 13%, 14%, and 18% respectively.
Shukla awarded police personnel, officials, and individuals associated with road safety efforts. He also launched a road safety song prepared by the police department.
The ceremony included a welcome address by Director General of Police Sanjay Kundu, a presentation on road accidents by Deputy Inspector General Gurdev Chand Sharma, and a vote of thanks by Additional Director General Abhishek Trivedi. Senior officers from various departments and prominent guests were also present.
