Governor’s Rejection of Free Water Proposal Sparks War of Words with Chandigarh’s AAP and Congress

A war of words has erupted between the Governor and Chandigarh’s AAP and Congress over the issue of providing free water to the city’s residents. Following Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s rejection of the proposal for free water and parking facilities, INDIA bloc parties AAP and Congress criticized his decision, accusing him of not thoroughly examining the proposal before dismissing it.

Mayor Kuldeep Kumar expressed disappointment, stating that the Governor rejected the proposals without even reviewing the files or discussing them. AAP’s Dr. SS Ahluwalia questioned why Chandigarh couldn’t provide free water when Delhi successfully implemented such a scheme. He criticized the Governor for rejecting the plan before it reached his desk, highlighting concerns about public welfare.

Furthermore, Dr. Ahluwalia criticized the allocation of funds from paid parking lots, alleging that the money goes into the pockets of select individuals rather than being utilized for development purposes. City Congress president HS Lucky echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the Municipal Corporation should bear the expense of water supply. He questioned why funds couldn’t be allocated for public welfare when significant amounts are spent on unnecessary expenditures.
