H.P. Cabinet Approves Key Decisions on Age Relaxation, Recruitment, and Infrastructure Development

In a recent meeting chaired by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh State Cabinet approved several significant decisions aimed at enhancing the state’s infrastructure, healthcare, and education sectors. One of the major decisions was to provide a one-time relaxation of the upper age limit for candidates applying for 1,226 constable posts in the police department. Now, general candidates aged 18 to 26 years, SC/ST, OBC, Gorkhas, and distinguished sportspersons aged 18 to 28 years, and Home Guards aged 20 to 29 years will be eligible for recruitment. Additionally, the cabinet approved the creation and filling of over 6,630 posts across various government departments, including the engagement of 6,297 Early Childhood Care and Education Tutors in the education department to improve early education. The healthcare sector will see the creation and filling of 200 Medical Officer positions in the Health and Family Welfare Department, along with 22 posts of Professors, Associate Professors, and Assistant Professors in various state medical colleges, including Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Government Medical College, Nahan, Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Government Medical College, Ner Chowk, Mandi, and Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru Government Medical College, Chamba. These additions aim to enhance specialized healthcare services. Furthermore, the cabinet decided to create eight posts of Casualty Medical Officer in Tanda Medical College and five posts of Assistant Professor in Chamba Medical College, along with the requisite supporting staff, to operationalize Trauma Centres. The Himachal Pradesh Administrative Tribunal will also see the creation of 84 various posts. The cabinet approved the filling of 13 posts in the Town and Country Planning Department to improve regulations in newly constituted Four Lane Planning Areas. Additionally, four posts of Youth Organizers will be created in the Youth Services and Sports Department. The direct recruitment of Group C posts under State Government and State Public Sector Undertakings, Boards, Corporations, and Local Bodies will now fall under the purview of the H.P. Rajya Chayan Aayog. The cabinet also approved the opening of the Superintendent of Police Office and the Superintending Engineer Public Works Department at Dehra in Kangra district, although notifications will be issued post-Model Code of Conduct enforcement. An Electrical Division will be opened at Haroli in Una district. A Cabinet Sub-Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, with members including Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Public Works Minister Vikramaditya Singh, and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, to suggest guidelines for streamlining Home Stays and boosting tourism. Another sub-committee will be formed to recommend resource mobilization strategies, chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, with Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan, and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani as members. The cabinet also reviewed the state’s current situation regarding forest fires, drought, water scarcity, and monsoon advancement. These comprehensive decisions reflect the state’s commitment to improving public services, boosting employment, and fostering sustainable development.
