Under the astute leadership of Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, who also serves as the state’s Excise and Taxation Minister, the Excise and Taxation Department has achieved significant growth in the collection of Goods and Services Tax (GST). In February 2025, the gross GST revenue collected across the country stood at ₹1,83,646 crore, reflecting an increase of 9.1% compared to the same month in the previous year. Haryana’s gross GST collection for February 2025 reached ₹9,925 crore, a substantial rise from ₹8,269 crore in February 2024, marking a 20% increase. This growth rate is double the national average of 10%, positioning Haryana among the top five states in the country for GST collection, alongside Maharashtra, Karnataka, Gujarat, and Tamil Nadu.
A government spokesperson highlighted that this achievement is a testament to the success of Haryana’s tax reform policies and a positive indicator of the state’s economic progress. Haryana also led the country in GST growth rates among larger states in January 2025. The rise in GST collection not only underscores the state’s economic development but also serves as a strong signal of financial stability. The Chief Minister commended the Excise and Taxation Department for its outstanding performance and emphasized that the state is on a path to becoming more economically and financially robust.
The Excise and Taxation Department is a crucial pillar of Haryana’s economy, contributing over 80% of the state’s total revenue under SGST, excise duty, and VAT. During the period from April 2024 to February 2025, the department collected ₹57,125 crore, exceeding 90% of the total budget target of ₹63,348 crore for the financial year 2024-25. The department is on track to surpass its budget target, reinforcing the state’s financial health and enabling continued investment in development projects.
The government spokesperson further stated that revenue is a vital resource for the state, supporting various government projects, public services, and developmental initiatives. The efforts of the Excise and Taxation Department to exceed the budgeted revenue target reflect a commitment to ensuring that Haryana has sufficient funds for infrastructure development, welfare schemes, and other essential services. Such fiscal achievements not only enhance the state’s capacity to invest in growth-oriented projects but also build a solid foundation for sustainable economic progress.
The commendable performance of Haryana in GST collection is a direct result of effective governance, streamlined tax administration, and the state’s focus on expanding its tax base. With continued efforts towards financial prudence and efficient tax management, Haryana is poised to strengthen its economic stature further in the coming years. The Chief Minister’s leadership has been pivotal in driving these reforms and ensuring that the state’s revenue targets are not only met but significantly surpassed.
