Haryana Assembly Elections: Strict Adherence to Model Code of Conduct Essential, Says Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Aggarwal
Strict action will be taken against violators; C-Vigil App available for reporting violations
Chandigarh, August 23: As Haryana gears up for its Assembly elections, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pankaj Aggarwal has emphasized the need for all political parties to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). He highlighted that the Election Commission of India (ECI) mandates strict compliance with MCC guidelines, and violations will be met with legal action.
CEO Aggarwal stressed that citizens can actively participate in ensuring fair elections by reporting any violations through the C-Vigil app. This app empowers individuals to lodge complaints, which will be addressed as per legal protocols.
To maintain the decorum of election campaigns, political parties must place hoardings and banners only at locations approved by the District Election Office. Online applications for necessary permissions have been streamlined to ensure convenience. Moreover, every pamphlet distributed during the campaign must carry the name and number of the printing press. Failure to do so will result in strict legal action against both the printing press and the party or candidate involved.
Aggarwal also urged political parties and candidates to carefully follow all ECI guidelines, especially concerning the spread of information on social media. He advised verifying any suspicious information with the concerned Returning Officer (RO) before further circulation, warning that severe consequences await those spreading false or misleading information during the election period.
By adhering to these rules, all stakeholders can contribute to the smooth and fair conduct of Haryana’s Assembly General Elections.
