Haryana Assembly Set for Swearing-In of 40 First-Time MLAs: A Blend of Newcomers and Political Veterans
Saptrishi Soni:
The political landscape in Haryana is set for a major transformation as 40 first-time MLAs are preparing to take their oath tomorrow in a significant ceremony marking the beginning of their legislative careers. Out of the 90 newly elected MLAs, the assembly will witness the inclusion of both fresh faces and seasoned political veterans, bringing together a mix of experience and youthful energy to the state’s governance.
Notably, political heavyweights like former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and the incumbent Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini will also take their oath, while the first-timers embark on their journey into state politics. This new class of legislators represents a critical shift in the political dynamics of Haryana, with the largest group of newcomers belonging to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BJP has introduced 23 new MLAs, the Congress has fielded 13, while the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Independents have brought in two fresh faces each. The incoming MLAs will be administered their oath by Pro-tem Speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian in a formal session, as the new assembly gears up for legislative business.
Among the new entrants for the BJP are notable figures like Anil Yadav, Arvind Sharma, Arti Singh Rao, Devender Attri, Dinesh Adlakha, Gaurav Gautam, Harinder Singh, Jagmohan Anand, Kanwar Singh, Kapur Valmiki, Krishan Kumar, Manmohan Bhadana, Mukesh Sharma, Nikhil Madan, Pawan Kharkhoda, Randhir Panihar, Satish Kumar Fagna, Satpal Jhamba, Shakti Rani Sharma, Shruti Chaudhry, Sunil Sangwan, Umed Singh, and Yoginder Singh Rana. These newcomers are expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the state’s policies under the BJP’s leadership.
The Congress’s fresh faces include Aditya Surjewala, Balram Dangi, Chander Prakash, Devender Hans, Gokul Setia, Jabsir Singh, Mandeep Chatha, Manju Chaudhary, Mohammad Israil, Pooja Chaudhary, Rajbir Fartia, Vikas Saharan, and Vinesh Phogat. The entry of these candidates into the legislative process marks a new chapter for the Congress in the state, as they seek to challenge the ruling BJP in the assembly.
Not only are there newcomers, but this session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha will also see some of the state’s most experienced political figures taking their oaths yet again. Pro-tem Speaker Raghuvir Singh Kadian, representing Congress, and BJP’s Anil Vij will each be sworn in for a record seventh time, underscoring their enduring influence in Haryana politics. Additionally, veteran politicians Krishan Lal Panwar and Bhupinder Singh Hooda will be taking their oaths for the sixth time. At 80 years of age, Kadian will be the oldest member of the assembly, while Aditya Surjewala, just 25, is the youngest, symbolizing the generational shift in the state’s political fabric.
This new session of the Haryana Vidhan Sabha will also set a record with 13 women legislators participating, reflecting the increasing role of women in the state’s political sphere. Congress’s Geeta Bhukkal, a seasoned politician who has been elected five times, is the most experienced among the women legislators. Savitri Jindal, representing the Jindal family, is the only Independent woman MLA, having secured her seat for the third time.
This swearing-in ceremony marks the beginning of a new era in Haryana’s political history, with a vibrant mix of new leaders and veterans set to shape the state’s future. The blend of fresh perspectives and seasoned political strategy is expected to bring dynamic changes to governance in the coming years.
