Haryana Cabinet Approves Proposal to Dissolve 14th Legislative Assembly
Chandigarh, September 11: In a significant political development, the Haryana Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Shri Naib Singh Saini, approved the proposal to dissolve the 14th Legislative Assembly of Haryana. The decision was taken during a cabinet meeting held in Chandigarh, which signals the beginning of the formal process leading to the dissolution of the state’s assembly ahead of the upcoming elections.
The proposal, approved by the cabinet, will now be sent to His Excellency, Haryana Governor Shri Bandaru Dattatreya, for formal approval. Once approved, it will mark the official dissolution of the 14th Haryana Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the upcoming elections scheduled for October 5, 2024.
Constitutional Basis for Dissolution
The authority for dissolving the state legislative assembly rests with the Governor, as outlined in Article 174(2)(B) of the Constitution of India. According to this provision, the Governor holds the power to dissolve the assembly upon the recommendation of the state government. This step typically occurs towards the end of an assembly’s term or in preparation for new elections.
The move to dissolve the 14th Haryana Assembly follows a long political tenure that saw the state’s leadership under the government of Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini. With the conclusion of this term, Haryana is set to embark on another crucial electoral journey where voters will choose their representatives for the 15th Legislative Assembly.
