On International Women’s Day, Haryana Chief Minister Shri Nayab Singh Saini took significant steps to uplift women and empower them in the state. Addressing the State-Level Women’s Award Ceremony in Panchkula, the CM reiterated that the progress of any society is intricately linked to the progress of women. He expressed confidence that by 2047, India’s development would be largely driven by the contributions of its mothers, sisters, and daughters.
The ceremony, which was also attended by Haryana Assembly Speaker Shri Harvinder Kalyan, Women and Child Development Minister Mrs. Shruti Chaudhary, and Health Minister Kumari Aarti Singh Rao, was inaugurated with the lighting of a traditional lamp. During the event, CM Saini celebrated the invaluable role women play in every sphere of life. He remarked that in the vision for a developed India, women would be the pillars of progress, and gender equality should be achieved at a faster pace to build a prosperous future.
As part of the ongoing commitment to women’s welfare, CM Saini announced several key initiatives to make life better for women in Haryana. He declared that regular female government employees would now receive 25 days of leave annually, an increase from the previous 20 days. Female workers in Haryana Skill Employment Corporation will benefit from an additional monthly leave, bringing their annual leave total to 22 days, up from 10 days.
The Chief Minister also made a game-changing announcement for women interested in starting dairy businesses. Under the new scheme, Haryana’s women will be eligible for interest-free loans of up to ₹1 lakh to establish dairy units. This initiative is part of the state’s broader efforts to ensure that women are more involved in agriculture and related industries such as animal husbandry and dairy farming.
In addition to financial support, CM Saini unveiled several online portals that aim to streamline services for women and improve their welfare. These include a Domestic Violence Registration Portal, an “Apki Beti-Hamari Beti” portal, and the SNP Demand and Supply Portal. The CM also inaugurated 44 new Anganwadi centers and laid the foundation for a new Child Development Building in Charkhi Dadri.
Shri Nayab Singh Saini’s government has made great strides in addressing gender disparity, particularly in improving the sex ratio in the state. Haryana, once known for its alarming sex ratio, has seen significant improvements thanks to initiatives like “Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao.” The sex ratio in the state has risen from 871 girls per 1,000 boys in 2014 to 916 today. This progress reflects the changing mindset in the state, where daughters are now recognized for their achievements in sports, defense, and other fields.
In further recognition of women’s contributions, the CM honored districts that have made exceptional progress in improving the sex ratio and child nutrition. The first place was awarded to Karnal and Yamunanagar, with cash rewards for their efforts. Other districts also received accolades for their contributions to gender equality and child welfare.
Chief Minister Saini also expressed gratitude for the pioneering steps Haryana has taken in supporting working mothers. The state has implemented the country’s first Crèche Policy, allowing working women to have access to reliable childcare. Moreover, Haryana has opened 572 Anganwadi centers and 273 standalone crèches, with plans to expand the number of Play-Way schools to 8,000 in the near future.
To help women achieve financial independence, the state has launched the Lakhpati Didi Scheme, which provides women with training in micro-enterprises. So far, 2 lakh women have benefitted from this initiative, and the state aims to reach 5 lakh women through this scheme.
The CM also announced that the state had set up 31 Women Police Stations to handle cases involving women and children, and the Women Helpline 1091 has been operationalized to provide immediate assistance to women in need.
With these initiatives, Haryana is firmly on the path to gender equality and empowering women in every facet of life.
