Haryana Cracks Down on Unfit School Buses After Tragic Accident
In a swift response to the devastating school bus accident in Mahendragarh, Haryana, which claimed the lives of six children, the state government has launched a special drive to ensure the safety of students on the roads. This move comes after reports revealed the driver’s negligence, including driving under the influence and operating an unfit vehicle.
Following the Chief Secretary T.V.S.N. Prasad’s stringent directives, a state-wide crackdown commenced on Friday. Traffic police conducted special checks across Haryana, targeting school buses lacking proper documentation and valid permits. This initiative aims to prevent similar tragedies by ensuring all school buses adhere to road safety regulations.
The Chief Secretary emphasized the importance of immediate action. He directed civil and police administrations to verify the fitness of all school buses within their districts in the next ten days. Additionally, a dedicated committee has been established to investigate the Mahendragarh accident and identify contributing factors.
The emergency meeting, chaired by Prasad, included key officials like divisional commissioners, deputy commissioners, police range IGs, police commissioners, and district SPs. This collaborative effort underscores the state’s commitment to reinforcing safety measures in schools.
Prasad stressed the critical role of replacing unfit school buses with new ones. He mandated schools to employ trained drivers to guarantee safe student transportation. Strict action will be taken against schools failing to comply with these regulations.
“As public servants, it’s our collective duty to ensure the highest safety standards for school transportation,” stated the Chief Secretary. He further emphasized the need for officers to ensure unfit buses are replaced and trained drivers are recruited by school management.
The authorities are committed to sending a clear message to all schools. Strict adherence to safety guidelines and instructions issued by relevant authorities for child protection is mandatory.
Meanwhile, police have arrested three individuals, including the principal of the private school and the driver, who was allegedly intoxicated and driving recklessly.
A thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident. Mahendragarh Deputy Commissioner Monika Gupta established a committee for a comprehensive probe. Their objective is to ascertain the circumstances that led to this unfortunate event.
The tragic accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of prioritizing school bus safety. Haryana’s prompt actions demonstrate their dedication to preventing such incidents from happening again.
