Haryana Farmers Reassured: Minister Shyam Singh Rana Assures Sufficient DAP and Urea Supply for Rabi Season

In a detailed address to the state legislature, Haryana’s Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister, Shyam Singh Rana, reassured farmers of the adequate availability of fertilizers like DAP, NPK, and urea for the ongoing Rabi cropping season 2024-25. He emphasized the state government’s proactive measures and consistent monitoring in ensuring fair distribution of fertilizers to farmers.

Minister Rana highlighted that the Government of India (GoI) allocates fertilizers seasonally and monthly based on requirements. Haryana has already received 2.06 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of DAP fertilizer, of which 1.86 lakh MT has been consumed as of November 15, 2024. Comparatively, this year’s DAP consumption during the same period is 21,000 MT higher than last year, showing a surge in demand.

The state also ensured the availability of alternative fertilizers like NPK and Single Super Phosphate (SSP) to provide options beyond DAP.

NPK fertilizers: Of the 71,000 MT available stock, 49,000 MT has been consumed, leaving 22,000 MT for immediate requirements.
SSP fertilizers: A total of 94,000 MT was made available, out of which 25,000 MT has been used.

For urea, a critical input for crop growth, Haryana received 6.82 lakh MT, of which 2.78 lakh MT has been utilized, with a surplus of 4.05 lakh MT still available.

Measures to Prevent Fertilizer Misuse
The minister emphasized strict action against fertilizer misuse. Over **185 raids** have been conducted since April 2024 to ensure fertilizer stocks reach genuine farmers. Significant penalties include:
Suspension of 12 licenses,
Cancellation of 8 licenses, and
Filing of 7 FIRs** against offenders.

Additionally, 150 MT of urea, meant for agriculture, was confiscated from industries using it illegally.

To prevent misuse, fertilizers are being distributed only to registered farmers via the **“Meri Fasal Mera Byora” (MFMB) portal**. This system ensures real-time monitoring and fair allocation. In response to allegations linking fertilizer shortage to a farmer’s suicide in Jind district, Minister Rana clarified that the incident stemmed from **mental health issues** and not fertilizer scarcity. Detailed reports revealed adequate fertilizer availability in the region during the incident, dismissing any correlation.

The Haryana government remains steadfast in supporting farmers. Regular inspections, real-time stock monitoring, and centralized reviews by the GoI ensure timely supply. Minister Rana assured that **farmers’ demands are met efficiently** and emphasized the commitment to environmental-friendly practices like **Neem-coated urea**, which prevents industrial misuse.
