Haryana Gears Up for Crucial Lok Sabha Polls: Key Battles and Big Names in the Fray
Haryana is all set to vote in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on Saturday, with 10 constituencies and the Karnal assembly bypoll in focus. The political atmosphere is charged as the fate of 223 candidates, including prominent figures like former Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar and Congress leader Kumari Selja, hangs in the balance. This phase of voting is critical, given the high stakes and the intense campaigning witnessed over the past few weeks.
Haryana’s 10 Lok Sabha seats are up for grabs, and the BJP, which swept all these seats in the 2019 general elections, faces stiff competition from the opposition Congress. The contest is primarily between the ruling BJP and the Congress, though some constituencies like Hisar are seeing multi-cornered fights.
In the Karnal assembly bypoll, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini is contesting, adding another layer of significance to the elections. Manohar Lal Khattar, the incumbent Chief Minister and BJP candidate from Karnal, is up against Haryana Youth Congress president Divyanshu Budhiraja. Other notable candidates include Union ministers Rao Inderjit Singh and Krishan Pal Gurjar, former Chief Minister Manohar Lal, and Congress heavyweights Kumari Selja and Deepender Singh Hooda.
A total of 223 candidates, including 207 men and 16 women, are vying for the voters’ favor. Over 2 crore people are eligible to vote in Haryana, with polling scheduled from 7 am to 6 pm. This significant voter base will play a crucial role in determining the political future of the state. The campaigning for this phase ended on Thursday evening, marked by high-profile visits and rallies from top leaders of both the BJP and the opposition. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and Nitin Gadkari, along with INDIA bloc leaders Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and Arvind Kejriwal, have left no stone unturned in garnering support for their candidates. For the BJP, retaining all 10 Lok Sabha seats in Haryana is a matter of prestige and a testament to their governance. The party’s focus has been on highlighting the development work done in the state and the country under its leadership. On the other hand, the Congress is aiming to make significant inroads, banking on anti-incumbency and promising a change in governance. The results of this phase of polling will have far-reaching implications for both state and national politics. A strong performance by the BJP would reinforce its dominance in Haryana, while significant gains by the Congress could signal a shift in voter sentiment and impact future electoral strategies.
As Haryana heads to the polls, the political landscape is set for a dramatic showdown. With heavyweight candidates and a massive voter turnout expected, the results will be keenly watched not just in Haryana but across the nation. The election’s outcome will shape the state’s political future and contribute to the broader narrative of the 2024 general elections.
Stay tuned as Haryana votes for its future, and the nation’s political dynamics take another significant turn.
