Haryana Government Files Case Against Kejriwal Over Water Controversy Under Disaster Management Act

January 29 – The Haryana government has taken a firm stand against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s controversial statement regarding the quality of water supplied to Delhi. Haryana Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Vipul Goyal announced that legal action has been initiated against Kejriwal in the Sonipat court under the Disaster Management Act.

The issue arose following Kejriwal’s allegations that Haryana was supplying contaminated water to Delhi, a claim that has been strongly refuted by the Haryana government. Minister Vipul Goyal dismissed these remarks as misleading and irresponsible, emphasizing that such statements create unnecessary panic among the people of both Haryana and Delhi.

Vipul Goyal criticized Kejriwal for politicizing the matter, accusing him of using fearmongering tactics to deflect from his own administration’s failures in maintaining water quality and managing pollution in the Yamuna River.

The minister pointed out that the same water supplied to Delhi is also consumed by high-ranking officials, including the President, Prime Minister, and Union Ministers, indicating that the claims of contamination are baseless. He called on the Election Commission to take strict action against Kejriwal for spreading misinformation and resorting to cheap political stunts.

According to the Haryana government, the Delhi administration has failed in its commitment to clean the Yamuna. Out of 37 sewage treatment plants in Delhi, only 17 are operational, leading to severe pollution in the river. This inefficiency has not only affected the people of Delhi but has also had adverse consequences for residents in Faridabad, Palwal, and Mewat districts of Haryana.

Goyal emphasized that Kejriwal’s comments were an attempt to salvage his credibility ahead of the elections. He accused Kejriwal of indulging in propaganda to divert attention from his government’s shortcomings. The Haryana government views this as an insult to the state and a deliberate attempt to mislead the public.

The legal proceedings initiated under the Disaster Management Act reflect Haryana’s zero-tolerance approach to spreading false narratives that can incite panic. The government has assured the public that all necessary measures are in place to ensure the supply of clean and safe water.

The Haryana government has urged Kejriwal to provide evidence supporting his claims. Vipul Goyal stated that baseless allegations only harm public trust and cooperation between states. He reiterated Haryana’s commitment to clean water supply and accused the Delhi government of failing to address its own shortcomings.

This controversy has reignited discussions about the urgent need for better water management policies and inter-state cooperation to ensure clean and sustainable water resources for all citizens.
