Haryana to Establish Global AI Center with World Bank Support; Clean Air Project and River Linking Plans Unveiled

The Haryana government, in collaboration with the World Bank, is set to establish a Global Artificial Intelligence (AI) Center aimed at making the state a hub for AI research and innovation. This initiative, discussed in a key meeting between Haryana Chief Minister Mr. Nayab Singh Saini and a World Bank delegation, marks a significant step towards enhancing the state’s technological capabilities and contributing to the growth of the digital economy.

Chief Minister Saini emphasized that this AI center would offer training in modern skills, particularly AI, to empower the youth and position Haryana as a global education and innovation center. The center is expected to play a vital role in fostering AI research, creating new job opportunities, and driving economic growth in the state.

Additionally, the Chief Minister proposed a comprehensive plan for river linking in Haryana, with the World Bank showing keen interest in supporting this initiative. The project aims to improve irrigation facilities across the state, boost water storage, and revitalize water bodies, especially in rural areas. The river linking plan is expected to enhance water management practices and contribute to better agricultural productivity.

Haryana’s commitment to improving environmental sustainability was further demonstrated with the announcement of the Haryana Clean Air Project. With an investment of ₹3647 crore, including a ₹2498 crore loan from the World Bank, the project aims to make Haryana a pollution-free state by 2030. The initiative will focus on improving air quality, promoting sustainable urban development, and adopting clean technologies. The Haryana government will contribute ₹1066 crore, along with ₹83 crore in grants for air pollution control measures.

The Clean Air Project is set to be implemented over the next six years with support from various departments to build capacity for air quality management and implement pollution control strategies across multiple sectors.

Mr. Nayab Singh Saini expressed his gratitude for the World Bank’s support, emphasizing the importance of these projects in improving the quality of life for citizens and positioning Haryana as a leader in technology, water management, and environmental sustainability.

Mr. Auguste T. Koume, the Country Director of the World Bank for India, acknowledged Haryana’s immense economic potential due to its proximity to Delhi and its attractiveness to foreign investors. He assured continued support from the World Bank for Haryana’s growth and development initiatives.

These groundbreaking initiatives are set to propel Haryana into a new era of innovation, sustainability, and economic growth, making it a model state for technological advancements and environmental management.
