Haryana to Set Up 20,629 Polling Booths for Upcoming Assembly Elections: Key Dates and Guidelines Revealed
In a major update ahead of the Haryana Assembly elections, Chief Electoral Officer Pankaj Aggarwal has unveiled significant details regarding the election process. As part of the preparations, a total of 20,629 polling booths will be established across the state, ensuring comprehensive coverage for the electorate.
Aggarwal revealed that the election notification will be issued on September 5, 2024. Following this, candidates will have until September 12, 2024, to file their nomination papers. The scrutiny of these papers is scheduled for September 13, with the last date for withdrawal set for September 16. Voting will take place on October 1, 2024, and the results will be counted on October 4, 2024.
The final voter list will be published on August 27, 2024. Aggarwal emphasized the importance for new voters, especially those turning 18 by July 1, 2024, to ensure their names are included. For those whose names are missing, registration can be completed by contacting the local BLO and filling out the required forms. The voter registration deadlines have been expanded to January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1 each year. Voters should apply by September 2 to ensure their names are updated in time for the election.
Haryana boasts a substantial electorate of 20,327,631 individuals, comprising 10,819,021 men, 9,508,155 women, and 455 third-gender voters. The voter demographics also include 482,896 young voters aged 18 to 19, 149,387 persons with disabilities, 242,818 senior citizens over 85, and 9,554 centenarians. Additionally, there are 4,152,806 voters in the 20-29 age group.
The state will feature 20,629 polling booths, with 7,132 in urban areas and 13,497 in rural zones, spread across 10,495 locations. Haryana’s 90 assembly constituencies include 17 reserved seats.
Candidates are permitted to spend up to ₹40 lakh on their campaigns and must report these expenditures through a dedicated bank account managed by the district election officer. Additionally, candidates and political parties must publicly disclose any criminal background information through newspapers and TV channels between August 16 and September 30. This information must also be posted on official websites.
For convenience, candidates can use an app to obtain permissions for rallies, roadshows, and other campaign activities. Voters can access information about candidates’ backgrounds through the KYC app, and a dedicated app will assist persons with disabilities in the registration process.
