Heavy Rain and Snowfall Disrupts Life in Himachal Pradesh; 117 Roads Closed, Flash Flood Alert Issued
As many as 117 roads across Himachal Pradesh have been closed due to continuous rain since Thursday morning, severely affecting transportation and daily activities. Several remote areas have been cut off as landslides triggered by the rain blocked key routes. In addition to the rain, snowfall was reported in the Chitkul area of Kinnaur district on Wednesday night. However, the weather department has not officially confirmed the snowfall due to the lack of a weather station in the vicinity.
According to the state’s weather department, rainfall is expected to continue throughout the day in most districts, with an ‘orange alert’ issued for light to moderate rain in Sirmaur, Solan, Kinnaur, Mandi, and Shimla. A flash flood warning has also been issued for Kinnaur, prompting local authorities to heighten preparedness for emergency situations. Rivers and streams in the region have already begun swelling due to the heavy rainfall.
Minimum temperatures have dropped below normal in many areas, leading to a cold wave in some regions. The ongoing adverse weather has impacted daily life, causing delays in essential services, including school closures and the suspension of public transport in vulnerable zones. Residents have been advised to stay indoors, and tourists have been cautioned against traveling to hilly areas prone to landslides and flash floods.
