“High Alert in Gurdaspur and Pathankot as Security Forces Hunt Suspected Terrorists”
Security forces in the Gurdaspur area have reported sightings of suspected terrorists, leading to an extensive combing operation by heavy military and security forces. This region, near the sensitive Pathankot military base, has been put on high alert. The police received information that two heavily armed individuals, believed to be terrorists, had entered Pathankot. A resident of Kot Bhathian, a village near the International Border, alerted the authorities around midnight, claiming that two masked men had forced their way into his farmhouse, threatened him at gunpoint, and demanded he prepare dinner. After eating, the men moved towards Pathankot. The police have withheld the villager’s identity for security reasons.
In response, Pathankot SSP Suhail Qasim Mir held an emergency meeting with senior officers, while Gurdaspur police chief Harish Dayama convened a meeting with all SHOs in the district. Security has been intensified at railway stations and bus stands in Gurdaspur, Dhariwal, Dinanagar, and Pathankot, and vehicles on the Gurdaspur-Pathankot-Jammu National Highway are being thoroughly checked. The Batala police have also been put on high alert.
This heightened security response underscores the region’s vulnerability and the persistent threat of terrorist activities, especially in areas close to the international border and military installations. The implications are significant, as such incidents can disrupt daily life, instill fear among residents, and necessitate prolonged security operations. The authorities’ swift action aims to prevent any potential terrorist attacks and ensure the safety of the region. However, the situation remains tense, and the ongoing operations highlight the critical need for vigilance and robust security measures in border areas.
