Himachal CM Hails Bye-Election Victories as Triumph of People Over “Money Power”

Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has described the recent bye-election results in the state as a “victory of the people over money power,” sending a clear message to national politics about the futility of horse-trading. Following the victory of Congress candidates in two out of the three Assembly Constituencies (ACs) that went to the polls, Sukhu addressed a large gathering of Congress supporters at his official residence, Oak Over. He emphasized that the voters have delivered a strong rebuke to the politics of horse-trading and have voted to maintain political integrity in the state. The Chief Minister noted that it had been 25 long years since a Congress candidate won in the Dehra constituency, and the party’s victory in Nalagarh was also significant. Sukhu stated that the election outcome has sent a clear message to the entire country, and in the future, no candidate of any party in Himachal Pradesh will dare to engage in horse-trading for the next 50 years.

The Chief Minister criticized the leader of the opposition, Jai Ram Thakur, for his repeated claims of forming a BJP government in the state and at the center before the Lok Sabha elections, terming the BJP’s “Operation Lotus” a “biggest failure.” Sukhu said that despite the clear mandate of the public, Jai Ram Thakur continued to mislead the people of the state by making false and exaggerated claims. The Chief Minister also condemned the actions of the three independent MLAs, who he said had conspired to overthrow the democratically elected government and imposed the bye-elections on the people. He stated that the public has given a befitting reply to their obstinacy through the election results, which is also a good lesson for all those who were trying to destabilize the Congress government in the state.

Sukhu further noted that in the bye-polls held in 13 ACs across the country, the BJP has only managed to win two seats, and even those with a thin margin, which clearly indicates that the people across the country have rejected the “autocracy of the BJP leaders, its ideology and policies of being in power by befooling people.”  The Chief Minister’s remarks highlight the significance of the bye-election results in Himachal Pradesh, which he sees as a victory for the people and a setback for those who engage in political machinations to gain power.
