Himachal CM Inaugurates State’s First Trauma Center at IGMC Shimla, Announces Rs. 5 Crore for Hostels

Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu today inaugurated Himachal Pradesh’s first state-of-the-art Trauma Center at Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla. Built at a cost of Rs. 33 crore, the Trauma Center is expected to enhance emergency healthcare services across the state. The facility has been equipped with advanced technology, similar to that found at AIIMS, New Delhi, to provide critical care in emergency situations. A dedicated team of 30 doctors, 80 nurses, paramedics, and technicians will ensure 24/7 medical services.

While addressing the audience at the inauguration, the Chief Minister emphasized the importance of the Trauma Center in saving lives during critical emergencies. “The modern facilities here, including cutting-edge machinery and technology-driven beds, will revolutionize patient care,” he said.

During his visit, CM Sukhu also participated in the closing ceremony of ‘Stimulus-2024,’ the three-day annual event at IGMC, and appreciated the cultural performances. He announced a grant of Rs. 10 lakh for the students and an allocation of Rs. 5 crore each for constructing two new hostels for undergraduate doctors at IGMC, which are to be completed within 18 months.

Addressing further development plans, the Chief Minister assured that the parking issues at IGMC would soon be resolved, with ample funds being allocated for the completion of the lecture theater. He added that IGMC and Tanda Medical College would be equipped with modern facilities in the first phase, followed by strengthening other medical colleges across the state.

The Chief Minister revealed that over the past year, 720 new posts in various categories were approved for IGMC Shimla. The government plans to conduct walk-in interviews for MDs and senior resident doctors, with an additional 200 new posts for doctors soon to be filled. This will help the state meet international doctor-to-patient and doctor-to-nurse ratios.

CM Sukhu also announced the installation of an advanced MRI Three Tesla machine at IGMC, with a budget of Rs. 27 crore. Tenders have been issued for robotic surgery equipment and new CT scan machines for state medical colleges. Furthermore, a Rs. 20 crore PET scan machine will soon be installed at IGMC’s Cancer Hospital. The state government has also collaborated with AIIMS for streamlined procurement of medical equipment.

The Chief Minister reiterated his government’s vision of making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027, as outlined in the state budget. He highlighted efforts to modernize government departments with advanced technology and announced significant reforms in the education sector, with improvements expected within six months. The government also aims to make Himachal a Green Energy State by March 31, 2026.

In a media address, CM Sukhu took a strong stance against the opposition, referring to the BJP as the “Badi Jhooti Party” (Party of Big Lies). He remarked that the Leader of the Opposition has a “PhD in lying” and criticized the BJP for spreading misinformation. Sukhu also clarified that the Congress government, in its 20-month tenure, has not imposed any new taxes and humorously suggested imposing a “tax on lies.”Key dignitaries present at the event included Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhaniram Shandil, HPTDC Chairman R.S. Bali, MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor Surender Chauhan, Health Secretary M. Sudha Devi, and Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
