
Himachal CM Pushes for Timely and Quality Development in Kangra

Dharamshala: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu reviewed ongoing development projects in Kangra district during a meeting with senior officials at Dharamshala, emphasizing the importance of timely execution and quality services to uplift public welfare. Highlighting the state government’s focus on transparency, he labeled delays in project execution as “delayed corruption” and urged officials to expedite all pending and ongoing initiatives.
2025: The “Performing Year” for Himachal
The Chief Minister declared 2025 as a “Performing Year” for the state government, calling for unwavering cooperation from all departments. Stressing resource availability, he reassured that adequate budgets have been allocated for flagship schemes. Departments were instructed to fully utilize funds within the financial year and ensure seamless delivery of welfare initiatives to eligible beneficiaries.
The state government has earmarked ₹1,500 crore for modernizing healthcare facilities by equipping hospitals with advanced medical devices, aiming to provide quality healthcare at the grassroots. In education and infrastructure, significant milestones are being set, including the construction of the Pathankot-Mandi and Matour-Shimla four-lane highways with a planned 5-meter median for enhanced safety.
The government is also boosting tourism in Kangra with ambitious projects such as an international-level zoological park in Bankhandi, slated for completion in its first phase by April 2026. Additionally, tenders for heliports in Rakkar and Palampur will be finalized soon, further enhancing connectivity.
To strengthen Kangra’s rural economy, the government is promoting natural farming. Approximately 8,894 farmers in the district are practicing this sustainable farming method, with maize produced under this initiative being marketed under the “Him-Bhog” brand. Self-help groups (SHGs), particularly those led by women, are being empowered with better marketing opportunities, including designated urban shop spaces.
Fruit cultivation is another focus area, with the government encouraging the growth of high-value crops like dragon fruit and blueberries to increase farmers’ incomes.
The Chief Minister announced changes in the BPL criteria, raising the income limit to ₹1.50 lakh per annum, with a new survey starting in April. Revenue-related issues have been tackled effectively, with over 80,000 cases resolved through Revenue Lok Adalats in Kangra alone.
Under disaster relief measures, ₹4,500 crore was allocated to support affected families from last year’s calamities. For Kangra district, two installments have been distributed to rehabilitate 383 fully destroyed homes, with the third installment expected soon.
The CM directed officials to explore solar energy projects in Kangra and expedite green panchayat initiatives to align with the state’s sustainability goals. Social welfare programs like the Mukhya Mantri Sukhashraya Scheme and Indira Gandhi Sukh Shiksha Yojna have benefitted thousands, while nearly 1.8 lakh individuals in Kangra are now receiving social security pensions.
The Chief Minister reiterated the state government’s vision of making Himachal Pradesh self-reliant. By focusing on health, education, infrastructure, agriculture, and green energy, the government is paving the way for sustainable and inclusive development.
Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Chairman RS Bali, Deputy Chief Whip Kewal Singh Pathania, MLAs Sanjay Rattan, Malender Rajan, and other senior officials participated in the review meeting.
The state’s unwavering commitment to development, coupled with innovative strategies and timely execution, is setting new benchmarks for growth and prosperity.
