Himachal Health Minister Orders Tenders for Essential Drugs, CT Scan Machines to Enhance Healthcare

Shimla, October 3: In a bid to enhance healthcare services across Himachal Pradesh, Health Minister Dr. (Col.) Dhani Ram Shandil chaired a high-power committee meeting today with the officials of Himachal Pradesh Medical Services Corporation Ltd. The meeting focused on the transparent procurement of quality medicines, medical consumables, and advanced equipment for the state’s healthcare system.

During the meeting, the Health Minister emphasized the importance of addressing the rising demand for essential drugs and surgical items in state-run hospitals and healthcare institutions. He directed officials to float tenders for 888 essential medicines and 273 medical consumables and surgical items. This step aims to ensure the availability of high-quality medical supplies to meet the needs of hospitals and other healthcare institutions, thereby improving the quality of care provided to patients across the state.

In addition, Dr. Shandil announced that approval had been granted to issue tenders for the procurement of CT scan machines for zonal, civil, and regional hospitals under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. These machines will be installed in 34 healthcare institutions across Himachal Pradesh, enabling more comprehensive diagnostic services for patients in these areas.

The minister also highlighted the government’s efforts to improve HIV testing and counseling services. Formalities for the purchase of Integrated Counseling and Testing Centre (ICTC) vans have been completed, and these mobile units will be deployed to serve the general public, high-risk groups (HRGs), industrial areas, and prisons. The ICTC vans will enhance public access to vital HIV testing and counseling services, especially in underserved and high-risk regions of the state.

To ensure transparency and cost-efficiency in the procurement process, Dr. Shandil instructed officials to issue e-tenders based on a rate contract system, rather than opting for one-time purchases. This approach will be applied particularly for items costing less than Rs. 11,000, ensuring a fair and competitive selection of suppliers and further optimizing the procurement process.

This initiative, Dr. Shandil stated, reflects the government’s commitment to making high-quality healthcare services accessible and affordable for the people of Himachal Pradesh. Through transparent and efficient procurement, the government is determined to strengthen the state’s healthcare infrastructure.

Senior health officials, including Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, Director Health Dr. P.C. Daroch, and Priyanka Verma, Managing Director of the National Health Mission, were present at the meeting.
