Himachal Pradesh Cabinet Greenlights Key Development Projects and Reforms
In a significant meeting chaired by Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Himachal Pradesh State Cabinet approved several key projects and policy reforms aimed at boosting the state’s infrastructure, power generation, education, healthcare, and employment sectors. One of the major decisions taken during the meeting was the transfer of the 780 MW Jangi Thopan Powari Hydro Power Project to the Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (HPPCL). Additionally, the Cabinet sanctioned the allocation of the 1630 MW Renukaji and 270 MW Thana Plaun Pump Storage Hydro Electric Projects, also in favor of HPPCL. These projects are expected to significantly enhance the state’s power generation capacity and contribute to sustainable energy growth.
The Cabinet also formed a sub-committee to strengthen the functioning of Rogi Kalyan Samitis, an initiative aimed at improving healthcare facilities in the state. The committee will be led by Health Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil, with members including the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, Technical Education Minister Rajesh Dharmani, and Ayush Minister Yadvinder Goma.
Moreover, the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog has been authorized to release the results for Post Codes 903 and 939, while withholding five and six posts under these codes, respectively, pending investigations and court decisions. This move will help in maintaining transparency and fairness in the recruitment process.
In the education sector, the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) in Solan has been elevated to become the apex institution for school and teacher training across the state. This decision aims to improve academic research and enhance the quality of education in Himachal Pradesh. The Cabinet also approved strengthening 12 District Institutes of Education and Training (DIETs) to provide professional development for teachers, ensuring improved teaching standards in the state.
Another significant decision was the extension of benefits under the ‘Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar Rin Yojna’ to meritorious students pursuing professional and vocational courses abroad. The scheme will offer educational loans at a nominal interest rate of 1%, making it easier for deserving students to access high-quality education at international institutions.
In the healthcare sector, the Cabinet approved the establishment of 50-bedded Critical Care Blocks at Civil Hospitals in Dehra (Kangra district) and Paonta Sahib (Sirmaur district), equipped with modern medical facilities. Additionally, it was decided to open the offices of the Superintending Engineer of HPSEBL and Block Medical Officer in Dehra.
The Cabinet also took steps to address employment issues by approving the recruitment of 100 Assistant Forest Guards in the Forest Department. Furthermore, 33 posts were sanctioned for the Department of Printing and Stationery, and a new Police Station at Sissu in Lahaul-Spiti district was approved, along with the creation of 18 posts to make the station operational. To strengthen law enforcement further, six posts were created for the newly opened Police Post in Hatli, Chamba district.
In a bid to enhance the state’s law enforcement and forensic capabilities, two Deputy Superintendent of Police positions and six Medical Officer (Dental) posts in various ESI health institutions in Shimla and Solan districts were also approved. Additional posts were created in the Department of Forensic Services, including the provision of six mobile forensic vans to improve the department’s operational efficiency. Other approvals included filling positions in the Home Department, such as one post for a Dispenser in District Jail Mandi, and posts for Assistant Director (Biology and Serology) and Laboratory Assistants (Chemistry and Toxicology).
Lastly, the Cabinet also approved the filling of 10 posts in the Advocate General Office, Himachal Pradesh, further strengthening the state’s legal infrastructure.
