Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Undergoes TB Screening, Launches ‘Ni-Kshay Abhiyan’ Mobile Initiative

Shimla, December 7, 2024 – Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu underwent tuberculosis (TB) screening using a portable X-ray machine during a function held here today as part of the state’s ambitious 100-day ‘Ni-Kshay Abhiyan.’ The Chief Minister, who presided as the Chief Guest, also flagged off a dedicated mobile van to enhance the campaign’s outreach.

Speaking at the event, Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the significance of the initiative in achieving a TB-free Himachal Pradesh. He highlighted that the campaign aims to ensure timely identification of TB cases, effective treatment, and heightened awareness, especially among vulnerable and marginalized groups. “This statewide campaign will prioritize early detection and preventive measures, with active participation from communities,” he said.

The Chief Minister urged residents to actively participate in ‘Ni-Kshay’ camps in their localities and encourage early diagnosis for those displaying TB symptoms. He expressed optimism that Himachal Pradesh is on a path to eradicating TB in the near future.

He announced an additional allocation of Rs. 2 crore under the Chief Minister’s TB Eradication Scheme, supplementing central government funding. Reiterating the state government’s commitment to healthcare, the Chief Minister shared details about ongoing reforms, including upgrading emergency departments and procuring modern medical equipment for medical colleges. “Within a year, Himachal Pradesh will have access to advanced diagnostic and treatment facilities,” he assured.

To improve healthcare delivery, the government is overhauling its referral system and introducing measures to attract specialists. He announced plans to increase monthly allowances for super-specialist doctors from Rs. 60,000 to Rs. 1.75 lakh and for specialist doctors to Rs. 1 lakh.

Highlighting the state’s contribution to environmental conservation, the Chief Minister referred to Himachal’s forests as the “lungs of North India.” He appealed to the Union government to recognize the state’s efforts by providing a “Green Bonus.” He also mentioned revisions to the industrial policy to promote green industries, aligning with sustainable development goals.

During the event, Chief Minister Sukhu administered a pledge for a TB-free India and distributed Ni-Kshay nutrition kits to TB patients. He also honored institutions and organizations making significant contributions to the campaign.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Col. (Dr.) Dhani Ram Shandil praised the state’s high TB screening rates and urged continued vigilance for early treatment. He highlighted the monthly financial assistance provided to TB patients to meet their nutritional needs and called for public cooperation to eradicate the disease.

The event was marked by the presence of MLA Harish Janartha, Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation Surender Chauhan, NHM Deputy Commissioner Dr. Zoya Ali Rizvi, Mission Director NHM Priyanka Verma, and Secretary Health M. Sudha Devi, who provided a detailed presentation on the Ni-Kshay campaign.
