Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced a significant initiative to empower women in Himachal Pradesh. Eligible women registered with the Himachal Pradesh Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board will receive financial assistance of Rs. 4 lakh to construct their own homes.
This initiative aims to support widows, disabled women, and single women, providing them with the opportunity to build their own homes. The financial aid will be divided into two parts: Rs. 3 lakh for the house construction and an additional Rs. 1 lakh for essential facilities like kitchens, toilets, and bathrooms.
To be eligible for this scheme, women must meet specific criteria. They must be registered with the Board, have completed at least 90 workdays in the past 12 months, and have an annual income of less than Rs. 2.50 lakh. Eligible women can apply for the scheme through the Labour Officer, submitting the necessary documents. Once approved, the financial assistance will be directly transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account.
Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized the state government’s commitment to uplifting underprivileged sections of society. He highlighted the implementation of various welfare schemes by the Board, including financial aid for marriage, maternity benefits, education support, medical care, pensions, and more.
Additionally, the government is working on a new scheme to cover higher education expenses for children of widows up to the age of 27. Himachal Pradesh has also become the first state in India to enact legislation ensuring comprehensive care and support for orphaned children. Over 6,000 orphans have been adopted as “Children of the State,” and the government is committed to their welfare and education.
These initiatives demonstrate the state government’s dedication to social welfare and women empowerment. By providing financial assistance for housing and education, the government aims to create a brighter future for the underprivileged and marginalized sections of society.
